Our business is to provide you with security advice and services. We do not market any products, but there are a selection which we have tried and tested which we can recommend to you. These, together with some advice, are listed on this web site.

We have included only those companies that we believe offer something special. The recommendation may be for technical excellence or simply based on value for money.

Price is not always a true guide to value. Some of the more expensive products are sometimes less efficient than more reasonably priced ones.

We realise that most of our visitors have limited resources. To help you we have also listed very useful products that are absolutely FREE. The free products are normally scaled down versions of the main product. They are offered in the hope that, if you like the way it operates and it does the job, then you will buy the full product.

We have our own favourites and will be happy to recommend a product best suited to your particular needs. Remember that unless you are super savvy, some of the top end fire walls may well be beyond your experience level, and configured wrongly may not be as effective as a cheaper, simpler solution.

All of the products recommended have been tried and tested by us and are fit for purpose. However, we do not offer any warranties and guarantees, these are provided by the vendors themselves.

First some do's and don'ts

1) Always install an anti-virus programme and religiously keep it up to date.

2) Always install a firewall and again keep it up to date.
3) Always use anti spy ware programmes, use more than one and once again keep them up to date.
4) At least once a month de-fragment your hard drives, this will help pick up any malware.
5) Do not use the "preview pane" on your email programme, you may know not to open attachments but that is exactly what it does without your permission.
6) Switch off the HMTL option in your email programme. View emails in text only. If there is a link in the email that you want to go to, copy and paste or type it into the browser yourself.
7) If someone is offering free smilies or other decoration for your email, ask yourself why? It could be another form of spyware tracking or collecting email addresses.
8) When you have no reason to be connected to the Internet, don't be! Switch off your modem or router. These days it takes just seconds to reconnect, so there is no excuse.
9) If you must use Messenger or other IM's , exit the programme and close when you have finished.
10) Do not use the same password for all the different web sites that you use, change them regularly and make them a mix of lower case, upper case, numbers and symbols and at least 8 digits in length.
